It is sometimes difficult for modern readers to grasp the idea that Westerners think differently and read literature differently from how the ancient Hebrews did. How many times have we heard it said: The Bible says what it means and means what it says!”? I have had numerous people object, strenuously, to my insistence that we read the Bible through “Jewish” eyes, read the Bible through “Jewish” eyes with an understanding of their culture, their world-view, their literature. I mean, after all, the Bible was written by “Jews” to Jews, about Jewish promises. 17 Does it not make sense to honor that context?

IF A TEACHER IS NOT TEACHING YOU TO QUESTION EVERYTHING, INCLUDING HIMSELF, THEN HE’S NOT A TEACHER AT ALL.
A real teacher doesn’t exploit impressionable minds by saying anything but “Follow me only as far as I follow Christ!” Teach your students HOW to do their own thinking, discerning and decision-making. It’s no feather in your bonnet, oh lofty teacher, to grab your followers by their minds and get them to do your bidding. Teach them that the unfailing power to make perfect decisions lies with God, Who happens to be within THEM !!
Bible students should never be seduced away from doing their own thinking: their own God-aligned thinking is what can – and will – save the world! How? With the full power of God (not you) on their side, they will learn HOW TO recognize God’s voice within them. They won’t be preoccupied with all the warring methodologies out there that are vying for attention, but will recognize that to be a real teacher THEY need to sever their allegiance to you and become themself a Teacher Trainer.
Followers need to be encouraged – not discouraged – to break new ground courageously by studying out the new findings of highly qualified Bible scholars, rather than huddle around their leader (you). The Kingdom is advancing: let those impressionable minds who would sooner follow you off a cliff – let them know that they must take their learning beyond you, into the thirtieth century and beyond – way, way beyond!
If God Himself is your teacher, you can’t go wrong – but that’s a big “IF”.
I have personally seen many supernatural things over a period of 30 years, and I continue to see the supernatural on a regular basis! As with all gifts of the Holy Spirit, we must step out in faith to activate the gift. For example, while the Holy Spirit will sometimes move sovereignly to heal someone, most of the time we must engage our faith. Jesus often commanded an act of obedience in order to activate faith for healing. For example, He said, “Go and show yourself to the priest,”“Go wash the mud from your eyes,”or “Pick up your bed and walk.”In each case, physical healing occurred after the person responded in faith by obeying the command. When the Holy Spirit gives a prophetic word, we must take part by cooperating with the Spirit and delivering the word. When you act in faith, you are stepping over into the things of the Kingdom realm—healing, prophecy, miracles, discerning of spirits, and so on. I don’t see in the spirit realm all the time, but I can activate my faith, and I know that the Holy Spirit will meet my faith, and the gift of discerning of spirits will operate through me.

Generally speaking, people can be grouped into two categories of intellectual preference. The first group prefers explorations which require a precision of logical processes. These are the people who become interested in the natural sciences and mathematics. They do not become scientists because of their education, they choose a scientific education because it gratifies their scientific mental set. The second group prefers explorations which involve the intellect in a less logically rigorous manner. These are the people who become interested in the liberal arts. They do not have a liberal arts mentality because of their education, they choose a liberal arts education because it gratifies their liberal arts mental set. Since both groups are intelligent, it is not difficult for members of one group to understand what members of the other group are studying. However, I have discovered a notable communication problem between the two groups. Many times my physicist friends have attempted to explain a concept to me and, in their exasperation, have tried one explanation after another, each one of which sounded (to me) abstract, difficult to grasp, and generally abstruse. When I could comprehend, at last, what they were trying to communicate, inevitably I was surprised to discover that the idea itself was actually quite simple. Conversely, I often have tried to explain a concept in terms which seemed (to me) laudably lucid, but which, to my exasperation, seemed hopelessly vague, ambiguous, and lacking in precision to my physicist friends.
